Star-Lord

When Prince J'son of Spartax crash landed in Earth's Colorado Mountains during the war between the Spartoi Empire and the Ariguan Confederacy, Meredith Quill dragged him from the burning vessel. As she nursed him back to health and helped him rebuild his ship, the pair fell in love. After a year, J'son was ready to depart and reluctantly left Meredith and their unborn child behind, promising to return for her once the war ended. Peter Quill was raised by his single mother, until she was killed by Badoon aliens when he was 11.

He was placed in an orphanage, but escaped and eventually became a trainee NASA astronaut. An alien entity called the Master of the Sun eventually visited the space station that Quill and other astronauts were currently inhabiting, and offered the mantle of Star Lord (an interplanetary policeman) to a worthy candidate. Quill volunteered, but was rejected in favor of a colleague he once treated badly. Refusing to miss his opportunity, Peter Jason Quill stole a scoutship from Cape Canaveral, and shot his way to the appointed spot, where his old rival Harrelson, NASA's choice to be Star-Lord, was awaiting selection, where Quill was transported away in his stead, and transformed into Star-Lord.
